Italy's two governing bodies unable to agree/unite
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 March, 2011 : - - Currently two governing bodies work independently in Italy. The Federazione Italian Surfing (
Fisurf) was founded in 1997 and is the official governing body for surfing, recognized by the International Surfing Association (
ISA).
Surfing Italia is a very popular organization in the Italian surf club scene. Surfing Italia has gathered a large number of affiliated local surf clubs and is a driving force in Itlaian surfing.
For years, Fisurf and Surfing Italia have tried to unite efforts without success. "
After countless meetings, phone call and emails we could not get a positive result", tells the latest Surfing Italia press release.
Surfing Italia holds that clubs should be the ones who decide a future president (
as per the model in France for example), respecting the Italian legislation. Agreement was not possible and the complete Surfing Italia board of directors resigned.
The International Surfing Association is expected to contribute ideas, proposals and guidelines. Several years back ISA held that they were required by statute to recognize FiSurf
